How did they get the wine before their waiter showed up?
Because, that’s how.

In a fancy place, they’ve got a headwaiter and a sommelier before you get to the food-ordering waiter. But then again, fancy restaurants don’t usually make their waitstaff wear nametags like Jim has.
Hahaha, I was totally expecting a joke related to money in the last panel. You totally got me. XD
Oh my god…what happened to Herman’s eyes? Was someone messing with the sliders?
That’s the most radical of my character redesigns- Herman and Thurman have space between their eyes now. I thought it would benefit the strip if they looked a *little* less odd compared to the rest of the cast, as nobody else has eyes that touch in the middle. I think it looks more like they “belong” in this art style now, while still being recognizable.
I think it looks fine for Thurman, because of his glasses; but with Herman being the only cast member with the very classic, cartoony, inhuman eyes it just doesn’t blend well….in my humble opinion.
Also, it creeps me out…really really really really badly. A LOOOOOOOOOOT.
Herman’s new eyes remind me of Spongebob. Freaks me out.
i agree with whats been said. Old Herman kinda resembled goofy and fit as a comedic yet caring father character.
This new look makes him look like a teen, atleast on the third panel.
if i didnt know the character herman allready, i wouldnt think he was a clumsy or silly character based on this strip.
so unless your changing the character aswell, id say go with the old look
I dont want to tell you how to do your work
(I guess i still am eh? :[ )
but incase this becomes a big backlash.. then there is my two cents
I would actually say he looks considerably less terrifying and dramatically better. this way. =/
it just looks off in my honest opinion, & honesty is my policy! *wink* *wink* *knudge* *knudge*
I knew this wouldn’t be a *popular* decision, since this is the first time I’ve altered a character’s appearance to such a drastic degree, but I suspect the reason you all think it’s “off” is because, well, it is.
It’s “off” of what you know Herman “should” look like, as per how I’ve drawn him in the past, and any deviation from that just looks like I’m drawing him wrong.
Give it a little time and you’ll get used to it. And even if you don’t, I hope my rapier wit is enough to keep you reading the strip
Jim, hu? Is it a reference to Hucklebery Finn? I think his friend who was an…eee…not sure how to call them and not sound racist anymore, so I’ll say person with a black skin. I might be wrong, but I think his name was Jim.
Anyway, I’m not so sure she’s not after his money, better check out you’re wallet, Herm.
Bah, I forgot to say how funny this comic was. It’s….Wendzeliciously hilarious! delicious
As long as you keep your redesigning hands off of Penny I’m happy.
Hey Jim! Reverse Blazing Saddles Reference Anyone?
Herman does look more *in the verse* now. But he also kinda resembles disney’s Dale the chipmunk now…kinda disturbing…
I don’t know if anyone else is having this problem, but this site consistently loads really slowly or not at all for me. I *think* the issue is to do with the top banner ad because it loads fine when I switch on Adblock Plus. The reason I think it’s specifically the top ad because that’s where it hangs up when I load it without Adblock (it loads the background colours, the logo and the gray box to its right where the ad goes, but nothing else) and I have Project Wonderful added to my Adblock exemptions and they all load fine when it’s switched on. The loading messages down the bottom of my browser cycles through a couple of things including “Waiting for http://pixel.33across.com/ps/181966/?tt=iframe&pid=135…” which is where it hangs up. FWIW I’m running Firefox 3.6.3 and I also checked it on IE8.
Just thought I’d let you know in case it’s not just my browser screwing up.
I for one love the new look of Herman. I always thought it was weird that his and Thimrod’s eyes were so close together. I also found it weird that Penny would never bring up that subject since she is painfully aware that she exists in a comic and I always thought she would point out how ridiculously close his eyes were *shrugs*.
Jim isn’t a reference to anything, it’s just a random name.
I for one like the eyes. They remind me of eggs over easy. I like eggs over easy.
Jim, you probably got that name subconsciously (or unconsciously) from that bottle of Jim Beam over there.
I concur, the new Herman looks really creepy and strange.
His eyes are just too HIGH to be apart. Beforehand it looked much better.
Either you “normalize” his eyes further by making them not so tall, or go back to the old design,
GASP! THE Alex responded to my comment! I suppose that chasing the dream was more rewarding though… oh well! A dream accomplished is still an important dream!
Just three words. White. Wine. Steward.
