The Joy of Drawing With Alex Wendzel
January 14, 2010
A behind-the-scenes look at how I draw things! This should be awesome if you care!
I’ve had a lot of requests to show my process, so here’s the best I can explain it in one comic strip. If you haven’t seen the last strip, upon which this is based (It was really only up at the front page for a little over a day), go ahead and click that back button and find out how this punchline makes sense.
ALSO, For those of you that don’t read my newsposts, DO IT! because I have a DeviantArt now, and there’s a link to it down there below these words. I’d put it in this post, but I’m lazy.
More regular comics on Friday.

Haha mechanical pencils ftw! Screw you 900 dollar art equipment! This only costs 1 dollar!
Also first comment!!
Also I’m blaming you and the other two web comic guys I read for my lack of sleep. Congrats:)
Your alt-text is redundant.
Only 3 web comics? I blame them over 20 web comics for taking at least 1 hour of my day and/or worktime.
Still it is the first time i comment in any of them since this one went easily on my top 5 comics and it is nice to see how things are done.
Now i only have to copy the work process, learn how to draw, learn how to use Photoshop, get creative and funny ideas and steal that fan base with my own web comic :p
That’s actually pretty cool.
Ooh, that step 3 is actually rather useful. See, this is why I love stuff like this – it’s both entertaining AND educational
Alex you are my favorite person who stole an idea from Bob Ross. Only problem is he did it in a half hour or less
Appreciated.
KTHXBAI next time too
Love to see how you make the comic! Im gonna use this with own comics too so im gonna make an fan comic of Out at Home soon!
And theres something wrong with the Deviant art account… i can’t watch your page anymore
Very useful! Very Educational! Now my plans for taking over the world are nearly complete! Wait, did I type that out loud?
Last count, I follow 60 comics (three of which currently under hiatus), and currently developing my own on a premise I have not yet found in use anywhere! Stay tooned- It’ll go up just as soon as I learn how to draw, if not sooner (probably much, much sooner). I also work, am a single parent, and can’t remember the last time I slept.
This was very informative. I should show this to my friend. I’m amazed you didn’t use the Tick approach. (If you don’t know about the “How to Draw The Tick” joke look it up its awesome.)
I’m pretty picky about my web comics… I read alot , but this is on my main three, ( others being vg cats and allan). So keep up the awesome work!
OK, so I’ve read all your comics and decided to bookmark you, but you know what your website needs? A little logo to go next to the bookmark in my browser! XKCD has one, SMBC has one, Wondermark has one, and the link to your webcomic just looks so boring in comparison.
Good point. It should be Ordog’s face.
I’d have one if I had any idea how to do it
It’s a shame you don’t know anyone who would know how to do that sort of thing, isn’t it Alex?
If you want to make one, I’m not stopping ya
Holy crap I love the ordog idea, WHY HASN’T ANYBODY MADE THIS YET?!?!:D
It’s the fact that I have no idea how to put it there! If someone wants to tell me, then it’ll be up ASAP.
Huh? I thought I’d just posted a few links to help you. Wonder why they didn’t show up…
Anyway, guide to the Ordog icon thing (or, well, not specifically Ordog, but you get my drift..):

Thanks! I’ll try to do that soon
Don’t think you’ll read this so i can be lame. Thanks for posting this, i am such a noob and i didn’t know how this thing worked… and i always wanted to make a webcomic. So, Thanks!
I READ ALL
…(thank you
)
